A Night on the Town
Two nights ago one of our friends was so tired from jet-lag that he slept through dinner...And because we are dependant on the 3 meals a day we are assigned there was no where else we could go to get him food but into the city! They were hesitant to let us go because we know nothing about the city, especially at night..but we got a taxi, somehow communicated, checked out through 3 different security gates and went into new Jerusalem and had so much fun. There was a lot of teenagers listening to American rap and dancing, while another lady in the street was playing away on the harp. We pointed to what we wanted to eat since everything on the menu was in scratch mark arabic. what a cool language. I wish I could understand it. We went into some cool stores and smiled at some of the American things that had trickled over and influenced them over here.
It felt nice to become more familiar with the streets and figure out where we are. It cost 7 shekels a person for us to ride the taxi in, and that alone was fun enough to near die before we even got there. I loved it. We were all crammed too. It was an adventure and we're all excited to go back tomorrow again. I can't wait until this city feels more comfortable and we know the merchants better. This is going to be so fun. That's what's so cool about this. Not only is there fun parts, and cool places to see, but there's also spiritual things, and classes, and such fun people. I love this. Heck Yeah! I wouldn't trade these experiences for the world.
