School Days/Free Time
Well...The computer has had a minor shut down and I can't put any pictures up on here with this entry yet. Hence the fact no entry for yesterday! But good news...I can still post words...and pictures will come soon.
Hopefully the computer starts working before going into Egypt all week on Sunday. Yesterday was a day of bartering and enjoying the city. New classes started both of which are Judaism: taught by a Jewish professor from Hebrew University, and the second one is Islam: taught by a Muslim who teaches somewhere else. It is the most intriguing cool classes I think I've ever had. They are hilarious, and I love the Professor Ophir's accent.
Sometimes when you're walking around the center and you don't see any of the Israeli workers for a while and you're just talking with friends or studying or what not you forget where you are. It doesn't feel like you're in a foreign land. That is until...you put your t-shirt on in the morning and it has arabic writing all over it...you eat breakfast lunch and dinner and plenty of it doesn't have names in America so they call it "goulash" :), You walk towards any of the walls and see the whole city of Jerusalem out in front of you..or you go to class to see your professor with a yamaka on his head. It's amazing and I just love it.
Today we went to the Garden of Gethsemane and some beautiful cathedrals and a Russian church underground lit by candles.
The garden was an amazing place that just made you want to be still. I definitely will have to express to you in person how it was, because I don't think it's something that can just be typed out.
It's so cool to actually live here for a while, instead of just being a traveling tourist who only gets to dabble for a short time on things. I actually live here! I can stay and go and do whatever I want. And if I don't get to something one day, I can go the next. It's nice too because we're starting to learn our way around the city, and know the merchants and shopkeepers. They sell dang cute earrings and purses and Jesus-looking shoes for way cheap. The girls have gone wild on the marketplaces.
I
tried my first falafel yesterday in the market and girl in my group got her bum pinched. I just can't believe I really live here. It's the most fun thought in the world lately. A few of my friends and I just sat on this bench and watched all the tourists reaction to the Garden. Everyday is filled with such spiritual things. Such educational things. Such hilarious things. Just good things all around. This culture is amazing.
